Pre-autonomic neurons in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) project to sympathetic and parasympathetic motor nuclei in the brain stem, from where the liver and white adipose tissue (WAT) are innervated by both branches of the autonomic nervous system (ANS).
